Grab your vests—we've made a day just for scouts! Come in, geek out & try your hand at engineering and computer science.  Together with Girl Scouts of Western Washington, we're putting on a slew of activities and special workshops for aspiring engineers of all ages.

Workshop Options

Due to demand, all workshops on Scout Days are limited to girl scouts and troop leaders.  Friends and family attending with girl scouts are welcome to take advantage of our tours and demos, free to the public daily at 11:15 am, 1:15 pm, and 3:15 pm.

If you anticipate a girl scout needing an exception to this policy, please email to speak with an Educator about arranging an accommodation. 

Cardboard Computers

Session I:  10:30 - 11:30 am

Maximum 28 seats  |  This activity is best suited for Brownies and up.

Learn about the basic parts of a computer while getting crafty with cardboard!  Explore how real computer components fit together in this 60-minute workshop as you piece together an easy-to-navigate model. This fun, take-home craft gives girl scouts 8 years and up the opportunity to continue learning and evaluating common electronics outside of the museum.

Scratch Retro-Gaming

Session I:  11:00 am - 12:30 pm      Limited Seats Remaining!

Maximum 28 seats  |  This activity is best suited for Juniors and up.

In this 90 minute Lab, teams use MIT's popular free programming platform, Scratch, to write and debug scripts, learn basic coding rules and jargon, and use simple game theory as they work to recreate one of the most famous arcade games of all time: Pac-Man.

Intro to Soldering

This workshop requires a soldering waiver signed by a parent or guardian.  Print one here - waivers will also be available on-site.

What does metal pluys metal equal?  More metal!  Learn the art of soldering, an essential skill for engineers that enables them to build and create the technology we use every day.  Students will learn soldering basics and safety by putting together their very own LED Bit Badge to take home together with Labs Educators.

LEGO Robotics I

Get friendly with our fleet of LEGO EV3 Mindstorms - one of the most popular robotic platforms out there for aspiring engineers aged 8 and up.  Trick out your chassis, program a maze, and see how many challenges you can get through!  Bring a buddy:  this introductory workshop is a great opportunity for friends to learn and collaborate together.
